European weather agencies publish an atmospheric map every 6 hours — wind direction, speed gradients at altitude. We take that raw data and compute the regions pilots expect turbulence in. The same family of calculation is what airline dispatchers run.
How accurate is it?
This forecast isn't 100% guaranteed. The atmosphere is a live system that changes daily. It's designed to give you context before your flight, not certainty.

Data source: ECMWF Open Data, 0.25° resolution. Calculation: Ellrod TI2 index (vertical wind shear × deformation), derived from 250 and 300 hPa pressure levels. Presentation: downsampled to 0.5° resolution, refreshed every 6 hours.

How often is the map updated?
Every 6 hours, with each new run of the ECMWF weather model. The forecast becomes more reliable as your flight gets closer.
Does a red area mean my flight is dangerous?
No. Red means more noticeable bumps are expected; that can be uncomfortable but it is not a danger to the aircraft. Pilots already know these areas and adjust altitude or route when needed.
Can I plan my flight with this map?
This map is for information and context only. Real flight planning is done by pilots and dispatchers with far more comprehensive data.
